Second game of the season, and the home opener, ends with a loss, as Josh Allen and his talented Bills outfit put over 500 yards on the Dolphins defense, including 417 passing yards, as Allen hit 24 completions on 35 throws, with 4 for touchdowns.
Despite some plus points, including the healthy statline of the Dolphins — 28 points and 427 total offensive yards of their own
— and an offensive line that again illustrated an ability to protect
their QB, despite surrendering 3 sacks against a menacing Bills
passrush. However the failure of the highly paid Dolphins secondary will
sting the coaching staff and fans alike.
Big free agent signee, Byron Jones, would see only 4 defensive snaps on the day, as injury scuppered his day early. And this was bad news for the Dolphins defense. Brian Daboll, the Bills OC, would take advantage of this turn of events, instructing his young QB, Allen, to torment Jones' replacement, rookie Noah Igbinoghene, the rest of the day.
The upshot was Igbinoghene struggling to contain whoever he was matched against. with the Bills one-two combo of Stefon Diggs and John Brown combining for 12 recepetions on 19 targets, as they amassed 235 yards throws the air, and 2 TDs.
Not all Igbinoghene's fault, but the much-improved Bills quarterback, Josh Allen, illustrated an ability to sense the blood in the water and capitilised on it ruthlessly. Generally Allen looked clinical, completing 68.6% of throws, finishing with a 147.0 passer-rating.
